FAQ

Do you have questions?

How long can the coronavirus that cause COVID-19 survive on surfaces?

According to WHO, it is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces. But the best estimate from WHO is that the virus behaves like other coronaviruses, which may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days. This may vary under different conditions (e.g. type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment).

What cleaning protocol should I follow to prevent COVID-19 in my facility?

The current recommended protocol from CDC for preventing COVID-19 is regular cleaning followed by disinfection (see below).

What disinfectants are known to kill coronavirus?

German researchers have found that human coronaviruses can be efficiently inactivated within 1 minute by surface disinfection procedures with 62–71% ethanol, 0.5% hydrogen peroxide or 0.1% sodium hypochlorite. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency maintains a list of disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2.

Can hot temperatures kill coronavirus?

Exposure to heat can eliminate viruses, bacteria, and germs. According to Thuringen State Office for Agriculture (Study made by Microsearch Laboratories 2008 for steam and heat cleaning; National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China - COVID-19 prevention and control Plan 4th edition) the coronavirus which causes COVID-19 is sensitive to heat and can be inactivated by exposure to 56°C for 30 minutes.

What cleaning equipment will help me clean most effectively?

Floor scrubbers that dispense chemical disinfectants and hot water pressure washers that can heat water in excess of 100˚C (212˚F) will help you and your staff clean floors and other surfaces quickly and effectively so you can spend more time on cleaning tasks that require more elbow work.

What is the appropriate way to clean a site visited by a person diagnosed/suspected of having COVID-19?

You should always follow the guidelines provided by your local authorities. These will typically include cleaning and disinfecting the facility thoroughly. For instance,he U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides recommendations for cleaning non-healthcare community facilities with suspected/confirmed cases of COVID-19. For infection prevention and control recommendations for healthcare facilities, see here.

For all matters please ensure to always read and follow applicable national, regional, state and/or local guidance.

How can I protect my cleaning team during cleaning?

If your team is cleaning in areas, where they can potentially be exposed to people with COVID-19, you need to take the necessary safety precautions recommended by local authorities. As an example, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that they wear disposable gloves and gowns to perform all cleaning tasks and that they should wash their hands often.

Please ensure to always read and follow applicable national, regional, state and/or local guidance.

How can I educate and support my cleaning team to stay healthy and safe and at the same time reach the desired level of cleanliness?

Make sure they’re informed and are taking appropriate precautions to protect themselves, not just on the job but in all aspects of their lives. The World Health Organization provides a variety of resources to educate the public on the measures we should all take to stay safe and to avoid the virus spreading

To ensure the desired level of cleanliness, provide online training on proper cleaning protocols for eliminating coronavirus (see above) and on how to use all cleaning equipment. Consider implementing pre- and post-shift check-ins with your cleaning staff to address any questions or concerns.

For all matters please ensure to always read and follow applicable national, regional, state and/or local guidance.

Where can I find more information?

What chemicals should I use in the machine? Can I use bleach?

You should always follow the guidelines provided by your local authorities and make sure the detergent you use is approved for scrubber dryers.

We do not recommend using bleach because it may damage both the equipment and the floor.

Can I use a scrubber dryer to disinfect my floors?

No. Most disinfectants require a dwell time of up to 10 minutes, which is longer than the contact time during scrubbing. The job of the scrubber dryer is to clean the floor thoroughly so you can then disinfect as needed.

Can I use hot water in my scrubber dryer?

No. You should not put water hotter than 40°C into the tank. While the virus that causes COVID-19 is known to be sensitive to temperatures above 56°C, killing the virus via high temperature also requires an extended dwell time (at least 30 minutes).

Does a scrubber dryer need a HEPA filter to keep contaminants from re-entering the air via exhaust from the suction motor?

No. While HEPA filters keep contaminants contained during dry vacuuming, they aren’t necessary for wet applications because the particles bind with the water and are not exhausted back into the environment. Our scrubber dryers are widely used without HEPA filters in the cleanroom industry, which has strict requirements concerning the number of particles allowed in the air.
